Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) can be particularly effective when working with people on the autism spectrum because of the logical, practical and goal orientated approaches to problem solving. My CBT practice is specifically adapted for those with diagnosed or suspected Autism, ADHD, demand avoidant behaviours and other co-existing conditions. Many people with these complex conditions find challenges in their daily lives. They may also struggle with feelings of anxiety or depression. A diagnosis is not required.

CBT is a talking therapy designed to help us recognise and understand how our thoughts, feelings and actions are connected. Identifying unhelpful patterns and making changes can lead to new and more positive ways of thinking and responding to difficult or distressing situations. We will work logically and practically in the ‘here and now’ to help improve daily life. We will identify goals and together work towards them, step by step, within a supportive and confidential environment.

Typical areas of focus

Difficulties in the following areas:

  • ADHD, Asperger’s Syndrome, Autism or demand avoidant behaviour and how they affect you

  • Managing emotions or feeling emotions intensely

  • Confidence and self esteem

  • Sensory differences

  • Impulsivity

  • Insomnia and sleep

  • Transition from adolescence to adulthood

Mental health conditions, such as:

  • Depression

  • General anxiety, social anxiety and health anxiety

  • Self harm

  • Phobia

  • Panic attacks

  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

  • Trauma and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

  • Personality Disorders

  • Eating disorders

Social and communication difficulties in the following areas:

  • Finding and maintaining relationships

  • Starting and maintaining conversations

Work and study related difficulties in the following areas:

  • Managing projects, deadlines and workload
